This is Scripture Roundtable 30 from The Interpreter Foundation, in which we discuss Doctrine & Covenants Gospel Doctrine Lesson #26, “Go Ye into All the World, and Preach My Gospel,” focusing on D&C 42, 88, and 112, bringing in various insights to help us better understand the scriptures. These roundtables will generally follow the 2013 Gospel Doctrine schedule of scriptures, a few weeks ahead of time.
Some of the interesting discussion in this roundtable includes:

Ideas, implicit within D&C 112, dealing with the theological nature of God and his characteristics, and their influence on missionary work then and now.

Historical context of the Kirtland period and the missionary work then to both expand the Church, even during hardship, and counter anti-Mormon sentiments put out by apostates, particularly Ezra Booth.

Thank you for your wonderful podcasts. You briefly brought up the very important question of priesthood power vs authority — mentioning the promises in the D&C and the NT — promises of the ministration of angels, healings, doing even greater things than these, etc. And you did it in the context of Ezra Booth, an eventual apostate. I would much appreciate you mentioning this question (priesthood power vs authority) in the context of the hundreds of thousands of faithful missionaries and members who study the scriptures and have the same question. Again, thank you for your service in the Lord’s restored church.
Thank you for an excellent roundtable. I was wondering if the reference given by Martin Tanner about the chart showing the correlation between anti-Mormon efforts and church growth rates could be posted. I’ve tried a search at FARMS/Maxwell Institute and so far haven’t found it.
