Simple, straight-forward, and to the point, John Gee delivers yet another fine analysis. Taking simple words that have meaning beyond what we might normally think and extending those words into the explanation of thought process is a marvelous way to determine wordprint signatures between authors. I find this article to be demonstrative of how simple explanations regarding Joseph just “making things up” to be highly informative as to the unlikelihood of such simple explanations.
In addition, analysis such as is this method can be used as a springboard for further analysis, just as this version utilized work done previously by others. We should all find this to be a very nice step in the process of a more clear understanding of Book of Mormon scholarship!
I enjoyed the sensitivity to language and translation displayed by the author. There is a world of understanding partially hidden behind this concise contribution! Thank you and I hope there is a third installment!
Thank you for this article and all of the great faith-based scholarship you have produced.
I would like to know your thoughts on this particular use of “nevertheless” in 3 Ne 19:26: “And Jesus said unto them: Pray on: Nevertheless, they did not cease to pray.”
I’ve often felt that this was an awkward use of nevertheless.
Thanks for any thoughts.
I believe the use of “nevertheless” in 3 Nephi 19:26 is covered on page 198 in the second sentence of the first paragraph after the title Examples of Book of Mormon Usage, including footnote 5 at the end of that sentence.
