Hugh Nibley Observed
Nibley, Egyptology, and the Book of Abraham
Michael D. Rhodes

Michael D. Rhodes

“I’m going to be talking about Hugh Nibley and Egyptology in the Book of Abraham, and I’d like to begin by talking about how the decision was made to finally publish Hugh’s book One Eternal Round.1 On February 23, 2005, I, along with a group of colleagues, including John Welch, John Gee, Shirley Ricks, and others, was gathered in the front room of Hugh Nibley’s home. He was there in a hospital bed, but he was asleep or unconscious. His wife, Phyllis, and some of their children were also present. We had all met to decide what to do with Hugh’s unfinished book, One Eternal Round. It was aptly named. He’d been working on it for more than fifteen years but simply became too ill to continue.”
